Based on an Urdu novel by Rajinder Singh Bedi, this story is about Rano, (Hema Malini) a woman abused by her mother-in-law and husband, Triloka (Kulbhushan Karbhanda) who plies a horse card by day and drinks and beats his wife by night. Her troubles seem to be over when her husband is killed but the Panchayat (village council) passes a resolution asking her to marry Mangal, her brother-in-law, whom she has brought up almost as one of her own. How much more will she have to sacrifice to ensure the survuval of her children?
